“I just felt like it was home already,” Shittu said. “The players and everyone was so welcoming, the whole city. The coaches vision for me was just great.”
“When I first went to practice and the coaches were talking to me and showing me where I was going to be in their offense next year and just their vision for me on and off the court and how I’m going to grow as a person as well,” he said. “It wasn’t just about basketball.”
Shittu also cited Bryce Drew and his plan to develop him as reasons to attend Vanderbilt.
“He’s a great coach. He has a lot of NBA experience and he knows the type of player that I am and he just showed me NBA stats and what the NBA wants nowadays and how I’m going to get there.”
Last week Vanderbilt picked up their highest rated recruit in school history in Darius Garland. Shittu said that commitment helped push him to get go ahead and make the pledge.
Drew also has the Commodores in the final three for No. 1 shooting guard Romeo Langford, who is also considering Kansas and Indiana.
Shittu chose Vanderbilt over his other finalist North Carolina.
