Christian Bentley, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound guard from First Love Christian Academy in Washington, Pa., committed to Siena. Teammate Oduro, a 6-8 forward from First Love, signed with the Saints in November. Both are Toronto-area natives who have known each other for about three years.

“We’re already close off the court, so it’s just better to keep our friendship going and keep getting better on the court,” Bentley said.

“I was excited,” Oduro said about Bentley joining him in Loudonville. “That’s like my best friend. … Christian’s a guy who can score in bunches and get hot really quick.”

He and Oduro helped First Love go 24-3 and reach the Slam National Post-Grad Championship this season. But while Oduro signed with Siena months ago, Bentley didn’t have any other Division I offers before he committed to the Saints late.

“I’m not really too sure (why),” Bentley said. “But it’s really going to motivate me because I feel like schools really passed on me and I was good enough to play almost anywhere. I’m going to show everybody they’re wrong about me.”

First Love Christian Academy guard Christian Bentley said he’ll prove doubters wrong. Siena was his only scholarship offer.
