Canada Basketball announces Women’s National Team Camp

Canada Basketball announced the 24 women who were invited to the Phase 1 Camp for the Women’s National Team, which will take place in Edmonton from May 21st-30th.

The Women’s squad qualified for their sixth Olympic appearance after a stellar 2015 campaign, which saw them bring home Gold from both the Pan Am and FIBA tournaments.

The Canadian women, led by University of Saskatchewan Head Coach Lisa Thomaidis, will make their second straight visit to the Olympics, but after a quarter-final elimination in 2012, the squad will have higher expectations this time around.

Momentum gained from beating the Americans at the Pan Am Games will certainly play into their confidence this time around.

Things kick off for the women in Edmonton on May 21st for the first phase of training, before a squad is nominated to travel to Spain and France for a five-game exhibition tour. Canada, currently 9th in FIBA World Rankings, will face-off against 2nd-ranked Australia, 3rd-ranked Spain, 4th-ranked France, 8th-ranked China and 13th-ranked Cuba.
