A great run through the U16 FIBA Americas Championship for Women the past 10 days, the Cadette Women’s National team achieved something no other team has done – bring home the Gold.

This is the first gold this age group has ever won and it was done in dramatic fashion in overtime to a very tough Brazalian team.

The Cadettes went undefeated in pool play going 3-0 heading into the medal round.  They disposed of Mexico handily to set up a rematch with Brazil for the Gold who Canada had beaten soundly in pool play.

There is no doubt, at least in my mind, that Brazil upsetting the US played a slight factor in the results for Canada.  But since Brazil played the Cadettes incredibly tight to force an overtime it may not have mattered as to who the girls faced.  I think it could have been a similar result regardless.

A big congrats to our Cadette Women for bringing home the program’s first Gold Medal.
