The 10th edition of the Guy Vetrie tournament has tipped off in Sault Set Marie, featuring an interesting mixture of teams that includes local northern representation, along with Greater Toronto Area and American talent.

I made the short flight from Toronto to the Sault (shout/ out to Porter Airlines, I have underestimated them for too long) for the weekend to get a glimpse of some Northern talent

Tariq’s Tidbits

  • The Guy Vetrie tournament has a strong 10-year tradition, have hosted high level players including Kevin Pangos (Gonaga), Jahenns Manigat (Creighton), Maurice Walker (Minnesota), Kyle Johnson (Long Island/ PRO), Connor Wood (Carleton), Chris Egi (Harvard Commit), Grant Mullins (Columbia) Aaron Redpath, Leon Alexander (McMaster) and many more.
  • Bill Crothers is looking like the team to beat; a well-oiled machine that will take on one of the tournament hosts in Korah Collegiate in front of a packed home crowd.
  • Defending Guy Vetrie champions– Still Water Prep out of North Carolina have returned. Have yet to see them play, but they likely have some fire power
  • Clarkson is a team that not many know about, yet have a strong group of scrappy, athletic players–have a chance make noise
  • Anthony Iacoe (Korah) is growing on me, very interested to see how he matches up against Rashawn Browne and Bill Crothers

  1. Coach says:

Still Water is not a school. its a club team they pick up players as the go along and some are older than 25, its a shame when people try to win with old men against kids. They should be barred from the Vetrie and any other event!

  2. Jebraile Newkirk says:

2013 I won the Guy Vetrie Tournament MVP i was 17 i played for still water we were all juniors in HS!
