OTTAWA,ON–Last summer, the CIS-NCAA record was 10-57 in favour of the NCAA. Of the 10 wins, the Carleton Ravens accounted for five of them defeating UC Santa Barbara, Niagara, Saint Louis (twice) and Illinois State. The Ravens overall record was 5-6 against American competition, losing in some close games to Pennsylvania, Albany, Akron, Central Florida and La Salle.

This summer, the CIS back-to-back national champions will compete in seven CIS-NCAA games and by the first game’s result, you would think they started on the right foot by defeating Buffalo 77-75.

However according to Dave Smart, “We’re as talented as we’ve ever been, we just have no idea what we’re doing. Last year, we were a veteran team with a pretty decent amount of talent, so in August we looked good. This August we’re going to look awful,” he told the Ottawa Citizen.

Tyson Hinz registered a game-high 26 points for Carleton, while Philip Scrubb NPH #1-ranked player in the country did not suit up due to resting a soar ankle.

The Carleton Ravens will play six more games against NCAA opponents: UNLV, Northeastern (twice), Boston College, La Salle and Villanova. The following are Canadians on these programs:

  • Jarryn Skeete (Buffalo)
  • Anthony Bennett (UNLV) – Joins team Aug 31
  • Khem Birch (UNLV)- Eligible to play in the Winter
  • Olivier Hanlan (Boston College)
  • Dylan Ennis (Villanova)
