Caribana Classic Draws in 50+ NCAA Coaches…Hardwood Loaded With Talent!

Elijah Long and Cody John both had strong outings on day one of Caribana Classic

BRAMPTON,ON–In the city where Canadian basketball star Tristan Thompson (Cleveland Cavs) grew up, over 50 NCAA D1 coaches made their to the Brampton Soccer Centre to catch the next wave of Canadian hoopers for the Caribana Classic hosted by CIA Bounce.

Highlighted by the #1 player in the world, Canadian Andrew Wiggins, the courts were loaded with talent from 2012 to 2017. Kentucky Head Coach John Calipari & Florida State’s Head Coach Leonard Hamilton were both in attendance watching Wiggins, and seem to have the lead for the Canadian sensation’s services. Kentucky, fresh of an NCAA national championship are known for producing the ‘one-and-done” which Wiggins certainly will be, while Florida State was home to both his parents for their college careers.

Other schools in attendance included Texas, Virginia, Illinois, UCLA, & UNLV to name a few.

Canadian content:  Nate Philippe (Maine) and Paul Wier (NMSU) were in attendance continuing to recruit Canadians for their program.

  • Matthew Taylor (2013 6’5 W)  put on a dunk fest, showcasing his freak athleticism, making a case to have the most bounce in Canada. (unless the guy following this sentence has something to say about it.
  • Andrew Wiggins made the Brampton Soccer Centre look like his personal playground. On one particular play in the middle of the paint, he threw the ball off the glass to catch his own alley-oop to put the crowd into a frenzy!
Outside of the usual suspects and the prospects we’ve consistently highlighted in the past (Ennis, Rathan-Mayes, Watckins, etc) here are some guys to pay attention to on day two:
