Nirra Fields Writes New Chapter In Canadian Women’s Basketball, Game-High 20 as a McDonald’s All American!

CHICAGO, IL–After an exciting and busy week in the GTA, the NPH team took the road to the windy city for the 35th annual McDonald’s All American games in support of Canadians, Nirra Fields (UCLA committ) and Anthony Bennett (Undecided).
Fields was the first ever female Canadian to participate in this event and she certainly made her presence felt. It seemed as if the microphone was stuck on replay, as the name “Nirra Fields” was repeatedly announced after every bucket en route to a historic performance.
The Lachine, Quebec native posted a game-high 20 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 block on 9/11 from the field 18 minutes of play.
After being down nine in the first half, Fields took it upon herself to get the west team back on top, scoring on three straight possessions before her substitution came in.
The momentum had shifted in favour of the West and the game went down to the wire where a non-conventional foul was called with zeros on the clock, in what looked to be a jump ball that would have taken the game into overtime. The foul would bring Tennessee recruit, Bashaara Graves to the line where she would hit one to give the east team the win.
As a player that thrives off of high competition, Fields wanted to be on the floor to prevent this kind of situation and secure the win for her team.
“I wanted to go out there and help my team and get it in the last four minutes. There’s nothing more to say, Coach obviously knows what she’s doing so whatever she does, I’m fine with it.”
Fields was just four points away from setting the all time record for scoring in the Girl’s McDonald’s All American game however did not play in the final four minutes.
She reflects on the overall experience.
“It means a lot to be here, I can remember when I was little, I dreamed about being a McDonald’s All American and every practice I was thinking about it and put in extra time after practice. My senior year came around and I worked my butt off and good things happened.”
Nirra wanted to leave all the young Canadian females ballers that are on the come up with the message of believing in themselves and knowing that there’s always someone working harder.
We’re looking forward to seeing this future UCLA Bruin in a national team uniform this summer!
