TORONTO, ON–If you’re looking for one of the most potent scorers in Canada, look no further.

NPH #10-ranked 2013 prospect, Jamal Reynolds has made his mark this season, posting gaudy averages of 33 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds and 3 steals per contest.

He has been an integral part in the rise of the Pine Ridge pumas basketball program.

Standing at 6’4, you will find him slashing the lane, picking pockets and putting the ball in the hole in every which way.

Thus far, Reynolds has exploded for two 50 point games this season to go along with a few 40 point nights. Reynolds and his pack of pumas have participated in a lengthy list of tournaments this year where he was awarded MVP on two occasions as well as All-Star recognition at the Pinky Lewis Tournament.

Confidence is the determining factor that allows a player to go from mediocre to making an impact every time they’re on the floor. This trait has played a major in the transformation that JR has made in the past eight months.

Jamal Reynolds, Arguably Canada's Deadliest Offensive Weapon

“The confidence that I have with my own ability helps me because I believe I can play with anyone I step on the court with and that I’m going to make my next shot,” Reynolds told NPH.

Physically, his height and length allow him to play both guard positions, however naturally a scoring guard.

We’re anticipating that he still has a few inches to grow that will bring him to a fitting size for his position with respect to the next level.

Year after year, there are players that have breakthrough seasons and for Reynolds, this trend holds true.

Since his AAU season last spring with Grassroots Canada, Reynolds has witnessed great progress in his game yet understands that he is not close to a finished product.

“I see guys like Kobe and Lebron who are already so great at what they do, yet they continue working on their game everyday, so that tells me that there’s a lot of room to improve for myself.”

An area of his game that Reynolds would like to sharpen lies on the defensive end, as he aims to emerge as a lockdown defender by the end of next season.

As it stands, the NCAA programs recruiting the scoring machine are Maine, Albany, & Detroit. Expect this list to be magnified as the summer season comes around.

Reynolds credits his best friend and teammate Alastair Cole, as well as his new teammate Haboubacar Mutombo for the poise that is developing in his game.

“My coaching staff and teammates trust me with the ball in my hands. Playing alongside my best friend Alastair Cole and new teammate and goodfriend Haboubacar Mutombo gives me the utmost confidence to always make the right play. I trust them as much as I trust myself.”

As the road to March advances, the team’s ultimate goal comes to the suface.

“My teammates are like my brothers, we believe that we can make a deep run at OFSAA this year.”

One thing is for sure…if Pine Ridge is to make noise, Reynolds will need to bring his full arsenal and with the new addition of Haboubacar Mutombo, they could catch some teams by surprise.

Stay tuned on NPH for OFSAA coverage this March!
