Shamiel Stevenson has announced he will be attending the University of Pittsburgh next year to suit up for the Panthers under Coach Kevin Stallings in the ACC.

His visit to Pitt took place on January 28th and after that his mind was made up.

“It was my best visit of all my visits. I enjoyed every part of it. There’s nothing more I need in a school.”

Stevenson raved about the atmosphere that day when Pitt took on Clemson and elaborated on his relationship with the Panthers coaching staff.

“The coaching staff has been there for a long time and that’s important to me. They really believe in my abilities and what I can bring to Pitt. Also, I got reassurance from the guys on the team about being at Pitt and how much of a family they’ve become.”

At 6’7 and with the body and skill that Stevenson possesses, other high level programs from major conferences were all over him. Stevenson kept reiterating how much he fits there and how important fit is for someone who is committing to a program.

“It’s pretty much going to be a whole new team next year and there’s an opportunity to earn some big minutes. My mom and trust coach and believe that the staff can get me to where I want to be. Pitt is where I fit best.”

“I’m going to be able to play both wings and at times even handle the ball. Because of my versatility, I can be used as a stretch four as well.”

Key word, versatility.

Offense and defense, he’s a utility player that can guard different positions and score in a variety of ways.

“I really want to thank Coach Washington and the UPlay program for helping me along the way, I love em for that and I’ll never forget what they’ve done for me.”
